A note from our founder

As a Somali-American who has traveled to 28 countries and lived across 4 continents, I have a personal connection to the links between community, culture, and society. Each new environment forced me to leave preconceived notions behind and, to better understand my surroundings, master the art of listening. Through an 8-year yoga practice, I also reflect on the story within, the why, that solidifies my commitment to advocacy and humanitarianism.

I arrived at a crossroads in my career as a global health, development, and communications strategist. From high-level meetings with government officials to lengthy program design workshops, each interaction revealed outdated approaches to measuring need, providing recommendations, and implementing projects at the community level. There was so much more that could be done to encourage and support global leadership to accurately measure and understand community context and needs while also empowering communities in solution-building.

As such, I searched for a platform and service dedicated to establishing storytelling as a foundational aspect of development rather than an optional add-on.

It didn’t exist.

Chronicle Health is here to work hand in hand with leaders, organizations, and companies revolutionizing their approach to program design by positioning communities to define their narrative. By listening, learning, and collaborating, we can build innovative approaches to development and honor the systems that will remain long after we wave goodbye. It all starts with a story.

Sameera Hassan

As an experienced storyteller and communications strategist in the global health and development space, Sameera has a unique background spanning the areas of pharmacy, health promotion, project management, and qualitative research. Marete Selvin

Marete has several years of experience producing news broadcasts, reporting, and storytelling spanning across global issues, including health, climate, and agriculture. She has executive produced captivating and informative video content for international organizations, non-profit organizations, research institutions, and more in sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. Marete is the co-founder of Meraki Africa, a multimedia production company committed to redefining development narratives for positive social change.

Community Advocacy & Outreach - Kenya

Margaret Osolo

Margaret is a passionate community advocate and global health practitioner. As the Chronicle Health Community Advocacy and Outreach Lead for Kenya, Margaret uses contextual expertise along with her experience in supporting humanitarian programs in vulnerable communities and health literacy workshop facilitation to act as the primary liaison between CH project team and local community stakeholders.
